Wizkid‘s fourth studio album ‘Made In Lagos’ has been listed among The Guardian UK‘s Top 50 Best Albums of 2020.
The 14-track album, released on October 30, was ranked by the publication at number 43, above Selena Gomez’s ‘Rare’ and ‘The Album’ by Teyana Taylor. ‘Made in Lagos’ features an incredible group of chart-topping artists, including Burna Boy, Skepta, Damian Marley, H.E.R and Ella Mai.
“Nigerian pop continued to establish itself more firmly on the international stage in 2020 with successful albums by Burna Boy, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Tems and more. The best of them all was this lilting, versatile record by Wizkid,” the Guardian said in its article.
“Guest stars from across the Black Atlantic – Skepta and Ella Mai from the UK, HER from the US, Damian Marley and Projexx from Jamaica – create the sense of a diasporic dialogue, where reggae, dancehall, rap and Afro-swing seamlessly and sensually intertwine.”
A month after its release, ‘Made in Lagos’ became the longest charting album by an African act on the continent on the Top 20 of Worldwide Apple Music and tied Burna Boy’s ‘Twice As Tall’ as the Nigerian albums with the most weeks spent on the UK Album Charts this decade.
