‘Essence’, the stand-out track from Nigerian star Wizkid’s fourth studio album, has made it to Barack Obama’s list of his favorite songs of the year.

The song, featuring singer Tems, is considered one of the many highlights in Wizkid’s acclaimed ‘Made in Lagos.’

Barack Obama’s annual lists at the end of the year of his favorite things, including songs, books, movies and TV Shows have become something of a ritual for the former US president.

“Here are some of my favorite songs of the year,” he tweeted on Saturday. “As usual, I had some valuable consultation from our family music guru, Sasha, to put this together. I hope you find a new song or two to listen to.”

Like previous favorite songs on his annual lists, Obama’s musical taste spans many genres, from rock, to pop, rap and country. Wizkid & Tems’ ‘Essence’ was the only song by a Nigerian artist on the list.

Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bad Bunny, Phoebe Bridgers and Dua Lipa all make it to the list.

Other picks include a pair of Best New Artist Grammy nominees, Megan Thee Stallion & Beyonce’s ‘Savage Remix’ and Phoebe Bridgers’ ‘Kyoto’ — plus emerging artists like Lido Pimienta, Waxahatchee, Faye Webster and Little Simz.
