With Eyes on Presidential Rerun, Atiku Meets Support Groups

“You don’t leave everything to chance. We have to be prepared. Anything can happen.”

Perhaps with his eyes on a possible presidential rerun, Presidential Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has commenced a gradual activation of his presidential campaign team, following a meeting with various organs of his support group at his house in Abuja.

In the same manner, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has also commenced meeting with critical stakeholders of the PDP, in furtherance of the meeting with governors of the party, a forthright ago.

Atiku had met with his critical supporters at the residence of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi and later met with the PDP governors at the Bauchi State Government Lodge, Abuja.

Atiku confirmed the latest meeting with his critical support group in a tweet message.

“Today, I met with support group leaders and coordinators of Atiku Support Organisation (ASO), led by its National Coordinator, Mr. Abdulrahman Abdulraheem. We discussed the state of affairs of our nation. We also committed to answering the patriotic call to finish what we’ve started to the benefit of our nation and its people. -AA,” he wrote on his verified tweet handle,

One of the members of the support groups that attended the meeting told THISDAY, “You don’t leave everything to chance. We have to be prepared. Anything can happen.

“We have not had the opportunity to meet with him since the February 25 presidential election. We also used the occasion to assure him of our continued support,” he said.

Also, as part of getting ready for any rerun, the National Working Committee of the party led by the acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagun, recently met with all governorship candidates of the party in the last governorship election.

After the closed door meeting that took place at the PDP national Secretariat, National Publicity Secretary of party, Debo Ologunagba, told THISDAY that the meeting was a routine aimed towards reconstruction of members of the party.

“The meeting is for important organs of the party. It is routine as well as to inform them of developments within the party. All members including critical stakeholders are informed of what is happening in the party through such meetings,” the PDP spokesman said.
