The governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, received Stakeholders and Traditional Rulers of Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality, Kinsmen of the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike and other well wishers in Port Harcourt, On Monday.
The governor recalled how people had generated propaganda of ethnic politics into the crisis rocking the state, adding that the solidarity by the people of Ikwerre now show that they are part of his government. Fubara also declared that he is not an ungrateful person, because he acknowledges and appreciates those who have been instrumental to good gestures that has come his way.
Zenith Labour Party Chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be careful of his appointee, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Nwanyanwu made this known during a press conference in Abuja on Sunday.
The politician also raised alarm that Wike is allegedly planning to contest against Tinubu, in the forthcoming 2027 General election. According to him, the reason the political crisis in Rivers State has escalated, is because Wike wants use the state’s resources to finance his presidential ambition.
A resident of the federal capital territory, Shaibu Yusuf caused a stir on Monday, when he mounted a broadcast mast belonging to Aso Radio and Television, owned by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, in protest over the prevailing economic hardship in the country. Yusuf left a note on the floor, before climbing the mast, stating that he would only come down from the mast, if economic hardship insecurity, and the out of school children crisis were addressed, he also demanded that the petrol subsidy regime, ended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29th 2023, be returned. Nollywood actor, Hanks Anuku, staged a solo protest on Monday, drawing attention to the issue of hunger in the country.
The actor was seen in a viral video, holding a flag with the inscription Hunger dey ooo, meaning hunger is real, highlighting the plight of many Nigerians struggling with food insecurity. The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Monday, said that State governors no longer have any excuse to complain about payment of a new minimum wage if signed into law going by improvements in revenues that accrue to them monthly. Residents of the Ladipo area of the state, cheered officers who killed suspected members of a notorious kidnapping gang in shoot out last week.
The suspects were said to have plotted to abduct some wealthy persons in the state. The states P.R.O, Benjamin Hundeyin said that the police had received an intelligence report about the plan of the dangerous gang to attack some residents in the area, and upon receiving the intelligence the police intercepted the kidnappers, nine of them were killed, while two escaped, with gunshot injuries.
