Elder statesman and leader of the Ijaw Nation, Chief Edwin Clark, has said that the activities of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, were clear indications that he was not ready for peace in Rivers State.
Wike, the immediate past governor of the state, has been at loggerheads with his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, for some time now.
Clark, in a statement on Thursday, said Wike’s actions since President Bola Tinubu intervened in the face-off, was “no doubt a clear case of disobedience to Mr. President’s authority.”
He said Wike’s position on the issue of defection was that defectors must leave the party on which platform the defector got elected.
“We all know his position on defectors to another political party in the past. So, what has changed today?” he asked.
Clark further accused Wike of supporting the factional Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, when he and his colleagues held their first plenary somewhere in Port Harcourt and passed a motion demanding for a re-presentation of the 2024 appropriation Bill.
The Ijaw leader wondered why the factional speaker should do that when he knew that the bill had already been signed into law by the Governor.
“One would have expected that the speaker in keeping with Mr. President’s peace proclamation will first of all have prior discussion with the governor at the Government House, and not to engage in direct confrontation in the presence of the media.
“Let the truth be told to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nyesom Wike is not ready for any form of peace. Therefore, I call on the President, once again, to sanction Mr. Wike and call him to order to allow the Fubara govern Rivers State peacefully.
Meanwhile, Clark has congratulated Fubara on his victory at the Supreme Court and implored him to extend the olive branch to all opponents.
He also congratulated the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, on his victory at the Supreme Court.
