Miles Davis, Vice Chancellor of Wigwe University has said that the tertiary institution is committed to raising future economic leaders and to promote prosperity in the country.
Davis, in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, said the institution has built a structure to help the students launch enterprises and most importantly, help lead the country after they graduate.
“Wigwe university is committed to developing the future economic leaders and entrepreneurs who would grow our economy and not be dependent on someone else to do it. What makes Wigwe university unique is the fact that we are building an institution that is committed to building future leaders, committed to promoting prosperity in this country.
“Being fearless is first to recognize that there is something challenging me, something causing me to pause and step back. It means I understand this risk, I know what the challenges are but I’m still ready to move forward.”
“Our vision is lofty but attainable. We don’t want people to just go get jobs. I would like to see people leave Wigwe university and launch enterprises and quite frankly, this is not just a wish, we have built that into the structure of the university. We are going to support them to be entrepreneurs of their ventures, support them with venture capital, support them with mentorship that would allow them to accomplish their dreams. We want to create leaders that would not just lead the business but will help lead the country.
“Nigerians are full of life, so resilient despite all the challenges. They have a high degree of grit and ability to persevere and they should have more. We can always do better.”
He also stated that the institution will not be accepting international students yet because it is still under the probationary license period of the National Universities Commission.
“Because we are under the NUC’s probationary licenses period, we are not presently taking in any international students because we have to meet the requirements of the existing structure. Then, as we move forward, we would explore the best options to attract the best and brightest because we are setting up primarily under the NUC license to serve Nigeria and so we have to stay in total compliance with all applicable Nigerian laws and regulations.”
