West Ham’s Michail Antonio Released from Hospital After Breaking Leg in Crash

Michail Antonio has been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery for a leg break sustained in a car accident.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio has been released from hospital more than three weeks after suffering a broken leg in a car accident. He underwent surgery on 7 December to treat a lower limb fracture sustained in the crash.

Antonio, who plays for Jamaica, was trapped in his vehicle following the incident in Epping, Essex, and had to be extricated before being taken to a hospital in central London.

The club’s all-time leading Premier League scorer, with 68 goals in 268 appearances, remained in contact with his teammates, joining them on a video call ahead of their 2-1 victory over Wolves on 9 December. The team had worn ‘Antonio 9’ shirts in his honour before kick-off.

In recognition of the support Antonio received, West Ham thanked the emergency and medical services involved and announced that it would donate nearly £60,000 to NHS and Air Ambulances UK charities, raised from the sale of the commemorative shirts.

The club expressed its gratitude, stating, “Everyone at the club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Michail in the wake of the accident.”
