It was supposed to be a hub of peaceful dissent against police brutality, the symbol and the sum of the frustration and crushed hopes of Nigeria’s youth. But the atmosphere changed dramatically when the country’s security forces opened fire on young protestors just over a year ago at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos.
The shooting was captured on mobile phones and live-streamed on Instagram, but the Nigerian authorities denied it had ever happened.
