Watch Nigeria President Buhari Speak on IPOB and Twitter Ban

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday declined to comment on when the ban on microblogging site, Twitter will be lifted.

When asked by a team of reporters during an exclusive interview with ARISE News, when he intends to lift the suspension on Twitter, Mr Buhari said he’s keeping his plans to himself.

However, he was of the opinion that IPOB “don’t know what they’re doing”.

  • Stupid interview. Is every South Easterner an IPOB member? Why should this Fulani president be threatening Ibo people doing legitimate business in other parts of the country? Is the ongoing genocide whereby he has ordered the army to ransack homes, drag out and kill innocent young men his way of tackling the IPOB challenge? What is his response to the murderous menace of Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen wasting the lives of Nigerians? Buhari does not know that with his aggression and violence in the South East, he is gradually mainstreaming the secessionist agitation? Were these reporters barred from asking follow-up questions or they did not consider them important in this clearly ceremonial "interview"?

  • The hallmark of leadership is CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT. Two wrongs never make a right. Violence and counter-violence can never solve any problem. Political repression and threat of violence to bully an entire ethnic group is NOT the appropriate strategy under the present circumstances. The issue at stake is that under previous administrations of Obasanjo,Yar'Adua and Jonathan, there was NO agitation for the break-up of Nigeria. General Buhari's approach to governance especially his brazen nepotism and exclusion of other ethnic groups is sending wrong signals to the people. It is highly provocative. It is quite instructive that it was another President of Fulani extraction in the person of Umar Yar'Adua that found a lasting solution to the militancy in the Niger Delta through the introduction of Presidential Amnesty Programme. Nigeria is a plural nation with major ethnic groups and this is why there is federal character principle in the constitution. Unfortunately, this principle has been grossly violated by General Buhari and he is not bothered. Nation-building is not rocket science. Nigeria's multifarious challenges are due to leadership failure. Singapore is a respected country today due to the leadership qualities of President Lee Kuan Yew. The solutions to agitations for the break-up of Nigeria include political inclusion ; equity ; justice ; constructive dialogue and fairness. Nigeria belongs to ALL .
