The Pervomaisky District Court in Vladivostok has ordered the detention of the American soldier, Gordon Black, on theft charges, as reported by Russia’s RIA state news agency.
The soldier will remain detained until July 2, according to the court’s press office.
While the US Army has not officially named the soldier, it confirmed on Monday that it had been informed about the detention.
Sources, speaking anonymously, revealed that the soldier was stationed in South Korea and is accused of theft from a woman.
According to reports from the Russian daily Izvestia, the soldier, a sergeant based in South Korea, allegedly met a woman from Vladivostok online. They reportedly lived together for a period, during which the soldier is said to have stolen 200,000 roubles ($2,196) from her.
