US Rapper Bobby Shmurda Released from Prison

US rapper Bobby Shmurda has been conditionally released from prison after almost five years behind bars.

Shmurda’s conditional release means he will serve the remainder of his sentence under community supervision until the maximum expiration date of Feb. 23, 2026.

Conditions of such a release, which are imposed by the Board of Parole or an assigned parole officer, include not leaving any area defined in writing by a parole officer without permission.

Prior to the release, Bobby shared a message with fans on Instagram.

“Thank you for remaining loyal and for riding this six year sentence out with me,” the message shared on his behalf said. “I love you all and look forward to seeing you soon.”

Shmurda secured a ride home from prison from fellow rapper Quavo.

The Migos member, whose real name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, revealed he would pick up Shmurda from prison, following his release on Tuesday.

“I’m going to get my guy,” said Quavo. “I’m personally gonna go pick up Bobby Shmurda. I’m bout to go get him. I’m gonna let him show you how I’m gonna pick him up, yessir.”

In 2016, Shmurda, a rapper once on the rise thanks to a viral 2014 music video that popularized the “Shmoney dance,” was sentenced to seven years in prison after a guilty plea on charges he conspired with a violent drug gang.
