US Probes Unauthorised Release Of Classified Documents On Israel’s Plans To Strike Iran

The United States is investigating the unauthorised release of classified documents detailing Israel’s plans to attack Iran, according to reports.

The documents, from the US Geospatial Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency, indicate that Israel was positioning military assets for a potential strike in retaliation to Iran’s ballistic missile attack on 1 October. These documents were shareable within the “Five Eyes” alliance, comprising the US, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

A US official, speaking to the Associated Press, confirmed the documents appear to be legitimate.

Marked top secret, the documents were posted on the Telegram messaging app and initially reported by CNN and Axios. Officials discussed the matter anonymously as they were not authorised to speak publicly.

The investigation is also exploring how the documents were acquired, whether through an intentional leak by a member of the U.S. intelligence community or via another method, such as hacking, according to an official. As part of this probe, officials are working to ascertain who had access to the documents before they were published, the official stated.
