The United States (US) military has requested assistance from the public in locating an F-35 fighter jet that disappeared on Sunday afternoon while the pilot was flying over South Carolina. This occurred after the pilot had ejected from the plane.
The BBC reported that the unnamed pilot successfully deployed their parachute and is currently in stable health while receiving medical care in the hospital.
Joint Base Charleston took to X, formerly Twitter, to say, “We’re working with @MCASBeaufortSC to locate an F-35 that was involved in a mishap this afternoon.
“If you have any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defence Operations Centre.”
The search operation is currently concentrated to the north of JB Charleston, specifically in the vicinity of Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion, taking into account the last recorded location of the jet. This search effort is being conducted in collaboration with federal aviation authorities.
It is said that the F-35 is considered one of the world’s most extensive and costly weapons programs of its kind.
