US Elections: Kamala Harris Wins Vermont

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has claimed a decisive victory in Vermont, capturing 59.4% of the vote and securing 5,245 votes, according to early results.

Her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, received 3,346 votes, amounting to 37.9%.

The results reflect Vermont’s longstanding preference for Democratic candidates.

Vermont has consistently voted for Democratic presidential nominees since 1992, making it a reliable blue state despite its relatively small electorate.

The state’s political alignment has deepened over the years, particularly as Democratic leaders have emphasised progressive policies that resonate with Vermont’s predominantly liberal voter base.

Governor Phil Scott, a Republican who has led the state since 2017, has been a vocal critic of Trump. In the 2020 election, Scott openly crossed party lines to support then-Democratic candidate Joe Biden, a rare move that underscored his disapproval of Trump’s policies and rhetoric.

Although Scott has yet to endorse any presidential candidate for 2024 publicly, his stance on Trump remains critical, reflecting a broader pattern among Vermont’s independent and moderate Republican voters.
