US Elections: Kamala Harris Wins Rhodes Island, Massachusetts

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has claimed victories in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, securing 15 electoral votes between the two states.

Harris’s win in Rhode Island gives her four electoral votes, while her success in Massachusetts adds another 11, continuing the Democratic Party’s longstanding dominance in these areas.

In Massachusetts, Harris’s win reaffirms the state’s consistent support for Democratic candidates, marking the tenth consecutive presidential election that Massachusetts has voted blue.

The last time Massachusetts supported a Republican candidate was in 1984, when Ronald Reagan secured a landslide victory.

Since then, the Bay State’s 11 electoral votes have been reliably in the Democratic column, even as candidates have shifted policies to reflect the state’s increasingly progressive base.

Massachusetts’ Democratic preference has only strengthened over recent elections. In 2020, Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump handily, winning over 65% of the vote.

Harris’s policies, which emphasise social justice, healthcare reform, and climate action, resonate with the values of Massachusetts voters, who lean heavily toward progressive stances on major national issues.

Rhode Island has similarly upheld its Democratic loyalty, awarding Harris another four electoral votes. Like Massachusetts, Rhode Island has become a consistent gain for Democratic candidates, reinforcing Harris’s momentum as she builds support in key swing states.
