The US military has confirmed the killing of Muhammad Salah al-Za’bir, a senior operative of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Hurras al-Din, in an airstrike carried out in northwest Syria on Thursday.
According to a statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strike was part of an ongoing effort to disrupt and weaken terrorist networks operating in the region. Hurras al-Din, an extremist group aligned with Al-Qaeda, has been active in Syria, posing a threat to regional stability and international security.
The US military has conducted multiple operations against high-ranking militants in Syria’s Idlib province, a known stronghold for jihadist groups. While no further details were provided on the strike’s execution, CENTCOM reaffirmed its commitment to targeting terrorist leaders to prevent future attacks.
The airstrike marks the latest in a series of efforts by the United States to curb Al-Qaeda’s influence in Syria and neutralise key figures responsible for orchestrating terror operations.
