Ukrainian Drone Strike Reportedly Hits Russian Ethanol Plants, Injuring Two And Causing A Fire

Ukrainian drones reportedly struck ethanol plants in Russia’s Voronezh region, injuring two and igniting a fire, local authorities and Russian news channels on Telegram reported. Voronezh’s regional governor, Alexander Gusev, stated that firefighters extinguished the blaze in the Anninsky district, where two industrial facilities were damaged, and two workers were injured.

Gusev indicated that about 10 drones were intercepted or destroyed in the region late Sunday night, with debris causing damage across the Anninsky and Novokhopersky districts. However, the Russian defence ministry contradicted the local reports, stating that only one Ukrainian drone was downed in the Voronezh area out of 21 intercepted throughout Russia overnight.

Explosions were heard near an ethanol plant in Krasnoye village, Novokhopersky district, according to Baza, a news channel with links to Russia’s security services. Meanwhile, the SHOT breaking news channel reported a fire at a distillery in Anna village in Anninsky, and videos on social media appeared to show a large blaze lighting up the night sky. The location of these videos in the Anninsky district was confirmed, but the reported damages to two distilleries or the timeline of the incident have not yet been verified.

Kyiv has not yet commented on the strikes. In the past, Kyiv has often said its drone attacks inside Russia target infrastructure key to the latter’s war effort, in response to Moscow’s continued strikes on Ukraine’s territory.
