Kaduna State has started the distribution of 50kg bags of rice to 210,000 disadvantaged households throughout the state’s 23 local government areas as a palliative.
This happened as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), praised Governor Uba Sani’s administration for its pro-people policies and commitment to ensuring equitable palliative distribution to the populace.
At the start of the state government’s distribution of the palliatives in Dankande, Igabi local government area, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, chairman of the state NLC chapter, and his TUC counterpart, Abdullahi Alhassan Danfulani, conveyed their congratulations.
At the occasion, the NLC chairman praised the Kaduna State Government’s Palliative Distribution Committee as an example of Governor Uba Sani’s transparent governance approach for its dedication to the participation of important stakeholders.
Suleiman said, “We have all witnessed today that the palliatives are very much available. We have been with the KDSG Palliative Committee from the beginning.
“The recommendations we made regarding the modalities for distribution of the palliative have been adopted by the Kaduna State Government with our involvement, consent and understanding. We lauded Governor Sani’s government for inclusion as key stakeholders such as Labour Groups, People Living with Disabilities, market women, JNI and CAN are all members of the Palliative Distribution Committee and even at the Local Government Distribution level, and these critical stakeholders are also involved.
“This is because of Gov Sani’s confidence in us and his will and zeal to see that these palliatives get to the most vulnerable.”
Additionally, Danfulani commended the governor for including all groups in the decision-making process, saying that Sani places workers and vulnerable groups at the centre of important policies and programs.
In his speech during the flag-off ceremony for the palliative distribution, Governor Sani said, “This is the first phase of our three-phase palliatives distribution plan, where 50kg bags of rice will be distributed to identified households.”
He further stated that in order to assure the continuous supply of the palliatives, the state commissioner of police and the director of the department of state services were in charge of security arrangements.
