Mike Tyson is faced with a lawsuit exceeding $1.5 million from Cyprus-based company Medier, which claims the former heavyweight boxing champion unlawfully terminated a promotional contract to pursue a fight with Jake Paul.
Medier, which promotes the betting company Rabona, filed the lawsuit in London’s High Court against Tyson and his company, Tyrannic. According to the claim, Tyson ended the agreement in March, accusing Medier of breaching their January contract.
“The true reason for Mr. Tyson and Tyrannic’s hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr. Tyson had agreed a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul,” the lawsuit alleges.
Medier is seeking over $800,000 in fees it paid to Tyson, arguing that no services were delivered in return. Additionally, the company demands $729,000 in wasted production and promotional costs.
Tyson, 58, reportedly earned $20 million from last month’s eight-round fight against the 27-year-old Paul, held at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium before 70,000 fans. The bout, streamed live on Netflix, ended with Paul securing a unanimous decision victory.
However, Tyson’s legal team claims Medier violated the contract by failing to secure Tyson’s approval for promotional materials.
