Tyla Shines At BET Awards With Two Wins

Tyla has bagged two awards at the 2024 BET Awards for Best International Act and Best New Artist.

South African superstar Tyla has made history by winning two Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, including Best International Act and Best New Artist. Her stellar performance at the awards ceremony further solidified her status as a rising global star.

“Guys, I did not prepare anything, but I just want to say thank you to my tigers, my family, my team, thank you to BET for always pushing the culture… come on… I’m going to perform soon… so get ready…” Tyla said in her acceptance speech.

In addition to her wins, Tyla was nominated for four awards overall, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. Her recognition at the BET Awards marks a significant milestone in her career and for African artists on the global stage.

“This is just such a gift to be here. I just want to dedicate this one to Africa… you know… I want to dedicate this to all African stars before me that did not get the opportunity that I’m getting,” Tyla concluded.

The night was also highlighted by Usher Raymond’s acceptance of the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by music executive L.A. Reid. Teyana Taylor and Victoria Monét delivered a captivating performance of “Bad Girl,” mirroring the iconic choreography of Usher and Beyoncé.

Lauryn Hill closed the ceremony with a powerful set, beginning with “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” and transitioning into “Lost Ones.” The highlight of the night was a surprise appearance by Wyclef Jean, as the trio performed a nostalgic set with the Fugees, backed by a full band.
