Six people have been confirmed dead from the accident involving a train and a Lagos State staff bus.
It was earlier reported that the accident took place on Thursday morning as the train collided with a staff bus in the Shogunle/PwD area of Ikeja, while the bus was trying to navigate its way into Ikeja by passing through the rail track.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwoolu visited the injured victims of the crash who are currently receiving treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja. More than 70 people have sustained injuries due to this crash.
In a statement released on Twitter, the governor said, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the train/bus accident. The vehicle was conveying staff of the Lagos State government, our staff who serve the state in different capacities. Let us say a prayer of mercy and protection for our state. My thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.” The governor also declared 3 days of mourning and directed flags in Lagos state to fly at half-mast.
