Nigeria’s Former Foreign Minister, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, on Tuesday’s Morning Show, reacted to the confirmation of Liz Truss as the newly-elected British Prime Minister, saying that in order to fulfill the requirements of her new post, she must be able to articulate her beliefs effectively.
He said, “Let us hope the compassion she didn’t pick up at Oxford, she will pick it up in dealing with the problems that she is going to inherit.
“I don’t think that she’s going to be of much use to England or to the United Kingdom, if she goes in with this attitude of not really knowing what she stands for.”
He added that her prior support for the monarchy’s abolition as a liberal democrat and her current association with monarch politics will undoubtedly lead people to doubt her honesty.
According to Prof. Akinyemi, “She started as a liberal democrat, voting for abolition of the monarchy and now she’s on the right, right – wing of her right right-wing party. It’s not going to help her.“
In light of this, he counseled her to be honest about her beliefs and to see the United Kingdom as a cohesive community rather than a divided one.
In his words, “People must know, what she stands for, what she intends to do but she must think of the United Kingdom as a society, rather than a fragmented, sectional society.”
