Akinyemi, a professor of political science was a guest on the ARISE Morning Show and said the actions of protesters on Wednesday calls to question the role of the US security agencies.
“I didn’t know in my wildest imagination that we’ll be talking about the seizure of the American capitol, the seat of congress in an attempted coup, an attempted insurrection, instigated by a sitting President of the United States in an act of treason, there’s o other word.
“In addition, we must question where were the American security forces. Have you ever seen an American policeman? He’s like Mr Rambo himself. When they were needed where were they?” Prof Akinyemi queried when he featured on ARISE News.
“We knew this thing was coming, I had always prided the Americans on their art of preparedness, in fact I usually accuse them that they over prepare, they over plan.
“One knew for one week that there was going to be a collection of Trump’s thugs on the streets of America and in his tweets he called them that there is going to be in January 6th in Washington and event, come to Washington. Now sitting here in Nigeria, I could anticipate what was going to happen. Where were the security forces?
“I sat there petrified as this people invaded congress and it took almost two hours for the force reinforcement to show up to reinforce the capitol police, and they kept saying the national guard had been activated, I thought they would be on standby, they were the last to show up.
“Was there collusion or again is one just trying to be too dramatic. But what happened in the United States yesterday was treason, pure and simple.”
