Trump Wants Female nominee for Supreme Court

I Like Women More Than Men, Says Trump, as He Promises to Pick a Female nominee for Vacant Supreme Court Slot

US President Donald Trump has promised to put up a female nominee for the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy created by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“I will be putting forth a nominee next week. It will be a woman,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Saturday night. “I think it should be a woman because I actually like women much more than men.”

Earlier, the president praised two female judges, Amy Barett and Barbara Lagoa, who both serve on Federal Courts of Appeal, as possible choices. Another possible choice is Deputy White House Counsel, Kate Comerford Todd, who has a lot of support inside the White House.

But Trump’s Democratic rival, Joe Biden, insists the decision on her replacement should wait until after the vote. “The voters should pick a President, and that President should select a successor to Justice Ginsburg,” Biden said in a statement.

Democrats fear Republicans will vote for a conservative majority that could last decades on the country’s highest court. They argue that Senate Republicans blocked Democratic President Barack Obama’s choice for the US top court in 2016.

Ginsburg died on Friday at the age of 87, just weeks before the presidential election. She was only the second-ever woman to sit on the Supreme Court. She had made her feelings clear in the days before her death.

“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed,” she wrote in a statement to her granddaughter.
