Trump Vows To End Ukraine Conflict, Says He Had A ‘Very Good Call’ With Zelensky

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, announced on Truth Social that he had a “very good call” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday. During their conversation, Trump pledged to end the conflict between Kyiv and Moscow through negotiations.

In his post, Trump stated that as president, he would “bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives.” He expressed confidence that both sides could negotiate a deal to stop the violence and pave the way for future prosperity.

Trump has previously claimed that if he had been in office when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the war would not have happened. He has also asserted that he will end the conflict before taking office in January, should he win the upcoming November 5 election.

While Zelensky confirmed the call and expressed gratitude for U.S. military assistance, he did not mention any discussions about ending the 28-month-old war. Instead, Zelensky’s post on the social media platform X focused on the importance of continued American support.

He congratulated Trump on his nomination and condemned the recent assassination attempt on him, wishing Trump strength and safety.

Zelensky reiterated the critical role of bipartisan American support in defending Ukraine’s freedom and independence, emphasising ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages. He expressed Ukraine’s gratitude for U.S. help in bolstering its defence capabilities against Russian aggression.

Zelensky firmly rejects any negotiations with Russia while Russian troops remain in Ukraine. His peace plan, highlighted at a recent “world summit” that excluded Russia, demands the withdrawal of Russian forces and the restoration of Ukraine’s post-Soviet borders as they were in 1991.

Currently, Russian troops occupy approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory. Since capturing the strategic city of Avdiivka in February, Russian forces have made incremental gains along the 600-mile front in the east of the country.
