Trump To Kick Off Campaign With Rally In Key State Of North Carolina

Donald Trump will hold his first campaign rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, after Harris emerged as his likely 2024 opponent.

The Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump will conduct his first campaign rally since Harris emerged as his probable Democratic opponent in the 2024 election. The former president will hold an event in Charlotte, North Carolina, a key battleground state for the November 5 election.

The Trump campaign claims to be ready for Harris’ candidacy, asserting that she represents President Joe Biden’s economic and immigration policies, which have led to his declining popularity among voters.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll released on Tuesday indicated the newly adjusted race is statistically tied. The poll, conducted over the two days since Biden announced his decision not to seek reelection, showed Harris leading Trump by two percentage points, 44% to 42%. Other recent national polls have shown Trump with an edge.

Biden, who returned to Washington after isolating at his home in Delaware due to COVID, will address the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday night to explain his decision to withdraw from the race on Sunday after facing significant pressure from his party.

A source familiar with the situation said that the legacy-defining speech was still being drafted on Tuesday night when Biden returned to the White House after recovering in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he ended his reelection bid with a letter posted on social media.

On Tuesday, Trump made the rare move of speaking to reporters during a conference call to emphasise his campaign’s focus on border issues, accusing Harris of being partly responsible for a record influx of migrants.

Biden had assigned Harris the task of collaborating with Central American countries to help reduce migration, but she was not put in charge of border security.

“She’s a radical leftist, and this country doesn’t want a radical leftist to ruin it,” Trump said during the call. “She advocates for open borders and policies that nobody supports.”

Harris has not called for the elimination of border controls.
