Trump Says Efforts To De-Escalate Russia-Ukraine War Are ‘Somewhat Under Control’

Trump said efforts to prevent further escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war are “somewhat under control” after talks with both leaders.

US President Donald Trump has stated that efforts to prevent further escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war are “somewhat under control.”

Speaking on Air Force One during an interview with Clay Travis, founder of Outkick, Trump emphasised that “rational discussions” and maintaining good relationships with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy are crucial to negotiating an end to the conflict.

Last week, Trump held separate discussions with both leaders in an attempt to broker a ceasefire in the war, which began when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. While his efforts fell short of securing a 30-day ceasefire, the talks led to Putin agreeing to halt Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days, with Zelenskiy also agreeing to the temporary pause.

The war has caused widespread destruction and loss of life, and diplomatic efforts to bring it to an end remain ongoing. Trump’s remarks signal continued US involvement in seeking a resolution to the conflict
