Donald Trump’s doctor has said the US president is no longer at risk of transmitting Covid-19, giving him the all clear to return to an active schedule.
In a memo addressed to press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, White House physician Sean Conley said Trump took a test on Saturday which showed that he is no longer a “transmission risk to others.” But he stopped short of saying whether Trump had tested negative for the virus.
“I am happy to report that in addition to the President meeting CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) criteria for the safe discontinuation of isolation, this morning’s COVID PCR sample demonstrates, by currently recognized standards, he is no longer a transmission risk to others.” Conley wrote.
He added that Trump is 10 days from the onset of symptoms, has been fever-free for “well over 24 hours” and after diagnostic tests, “there is no longer evidence of actively replicating virus.”
Standing alone and not wearing a mask, Trump spoke from a White House balcony on Saturday afternoon – his first public event since being diagnosed with the disease.
The president, who is trailing Democratic challenger Joe Biden in national polls, urged a crowd of hundreds of largely Black and Latino supporters, to help get out the vote in the November 3 presidential election.
Eager to get back on the campaign trail, Trump will travel to the key battleground state of Florida on Monday, followed by rallies in Pennsylvania and Iowa on Tuesday and Wednesday.
