Trump Cancels North Carolina Campaign Rally Due To Storm

US Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made a decision on Saturday to call off a campaign rally in North Carolina, citing safety concerns due to an approaching storm.

Speaking to disappointed supporters via phone from his private jet, Trump expressed his regret over the cancellation, assuring attendees of his intention to reschedule the event and return to the pivotal battleground state soon.

The abrupt cancellation came just half an hour before Trump was scheduled to address a crowd gathered at an outdoor rally at Wilmington Airport.

Concerned about the safety of thousands of supporters amidst lightning flashes, Trump urged everyone to disperse immediately.

“I’m devastated that this could happen but we want to keep everybody safe,” Trump conveyed through the amplified speakers, addressing the disappointed crowd who had endured hot and humid conditions since early morning in anticipation of his appearance.

Expressing his disappointment, Trump mentioned the possibility of rescheduling the event, stating, “I think we’re gonna have to just do a rain check. I’m so sad.”

The rally was slated to take place following the conclusion of the first week of Trump’s unprecedented criminal trial in New York, arising from a payment to a porn star. With jury selection completed, opening statements were anticipated to commence on Monday.

Facing legal challenges in multiple states, including Washington, Georgia, and Florida, Trump’s New York case is the sole proceeding expected to reach trial this year.

The battleground state of North Carolina holds significant importance for both the Trump and Biden campaigns, with both vying to secure victory in November. Trump narrowly clinched victory in the state in 2020 over his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

Notably, Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had visited North Carolina for campaign just last month.
