Tributes Pour In Following Nollywood Actor Ernest Asuzu’s Death

Tributes have been pouring in for Nollywood actor Ernest Asuzu who has died at the age of 37.

His wife Jennifer Asuzu who confirmed the news of his passing, revealing that the actor fainted on Tuesday evening and did not wake up after that. She also shared that his remains are being sent to the east for funeral rites.

Asuzu had suffered a stroke in 2015 which affected his ability to speak and walk. In his last interview published in December 2020, Asuzu said his problem was spiritual. He was also planning a return to Nollywood and music after an eight-year hiatus.

Actress Kate Henshaw said news of his death was “truly sad”.

“Rest on star boi…thank you for blessing us with your talent all those years…. the original badboi of Nollywood,” a fan said.

Another wrote: “Rest in power Ernest “El Cream” Asuzu. A Nigerian hiphop pioneer and Nollywood star.”

Some called on Nollywood actors guild to “take care of your own, watch out for one another. Do not wait until ill health strikes.”

Asuzu kicked off his acting career in the early 90s and made his big break after starring in 1997 Nollywood classics, Another Campus Queen and Rituals”.

 He featured in over 150 films which showed his range and diverse talent. He was known for playing villainous, criminal, hitman and action roles which earned him the title of “Nollywood’s bad boy.”
