Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, came under fire on social media, on Wednesday, after he stated through a post on X, that a broadcast which was posted on the president’s official handle was not recent speech.
In the clip, the president implored Nigerians to look beyond the present ‘temporary pain’ and believe in the ability of his administration to turn things around. Tinubu also admitted that the current economic climate is tough on Nigerians adding that his reforms would work.
The Chairman and Editor-in Chief of the THISDAY-ARISE Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, on Thursday hosted a government communication delegation led by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris to a media parley at the ARISE Corporate office in Lagos. The Dangote Group has debunked media reports, alleging that its Refinery has backtracked by acknowledging that NNPC supplied about 60% of the 50 million barrels of crude they lifted.
According to a statement, signed by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief, Branding and Communications Officer, Dangote never accused NNPC of not supplying its refinery with crude, but raised concerns about NUPRC’s reluctance to enforce the domestic crude supply obligation, as well as ensure that the refinery receives its full crude requirement from NNPC and the IOCs. Chijena gave an example of their September crude requirement, which he said is 15 cargoes, of which NNPC has only allocated six, adding that despite appealing to the NUPRC, the refinery has been unable to secure the remaining cargoes.
On Wednesday, the group chief executive officer; of NNPC, Mele Kyari had said that there is a targeted media attack on him and the company, when he appeared before an ad hoc senate committee.
Kyari had also stated that the attacks are deliberate and calculated to create the impression that the NNPC and its leadership are creating economic sabotage in the country. The minister of women affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has yet again caused a frenzy on social media, after she was seen in a video disrupting an event, she claimed was conveyed in the name of the ministry of women affairs; without approval.
In the video, Ohanenye told attendees, that the event organiser had been arrested by the Department of State Services for alleged impersonation of the ministry, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had ordered the cancellation of the event but that the organiser chose to proceed. In South Africa, 23 year old model of Nigerian heritage, Chidimma Adetshina, who has been a subject of controversy over her eligibility to contest for this year’s Miss South Africa competition, has withdrawn from the pageant. Chidinma was born in Soweto, and is believed to be of Nigerian and Mozambican heritage.
On Wednesday, the Department of Home Affairs for South Africa alleged that preliminary evidence suggests Adetshina’s mother may have committed fraud and identity theft, adding that Chidimma, was a minor at the time of the alleged actions in 2001 and was not involved in the activities. In a statement via her Instagram page on Thursday, Chidimma said that she was pulling out from the competition for her safety and that of her family, generating a flurry of reactions.
