Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for Seven New Ministerial Nominees

President Bola Tinubu has submitted a request to the Senate for the confirmation of seven new ministerial nominees. The request was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s session in the upper legislative chamber.

The president made these new appointments following the dismissal of five ministers in a cabinet reshuffle that took place on Wednesday. The appointments were announced in a statement released by the presidency after the federal executive council (FEC) meeting.

Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu has been appointed as minister of state for foreign affairs, while Jumoke Oduwole has been assigned to the ministry of industry, trade, and investment. Nentawe Yilwatda was appointed to replace the suspended Betta Edu as the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction, and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi was named the new minister of labour and employment.

Additionally, Idi Mukhtar Maiha has been appointed as the minister of livestock development, with Yusuf Abdullahi Ata named the minister of state for housing and urban development. Suwaiba Said Ahmad has also been approved as the minister of state for education.

Meanwhile, Shehu Dikko was appointed chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), which will now assume the responsibilities of the recently dissolved ministry of sports development.

The ministers who were dismissed from their roles include Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, former minister of women affairs; Lola Ade-John, former minister of tourism; Jamila Bio Ibrahim, former minister of youth development; Tahir Mamman, who was relieved of his position as minister of education; and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, former minister of state for housing and urban development.
