President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Niger State following a tragic petrol tanker explosion on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road, which claimed 48 lives, including livestock, on Sunday. His message was conveyed on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement released by the State House.
The devastating accident, which also involved a truck carrying cattle and passengers, left many injured, according to reports from the Niger Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
President Tinubu extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased and those injured in the accident. He also acknowledged the loss of property, including shops affected by the explosion.
The President prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and praised the rapid response of federal and state emergency agencies, along with local volunteers who helped victims at the scene. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing relief and support to those affected by the tragedy.
He has also directed federal agencies responsible for transportation and road infrastructure to intensify their collaboration with state governments to improve road safety and security for all travelers and residents.
