Tinubu Lights Torch of Unity, Flags Off National Sports Festival Countdown

President Tinubu has lit the Torch of Unity, marking the countdown to Nigeria’s 22nd National Sports Festival.

President, Bola Tinubu, has lit the Torch of Unity at the State House in Abuja, marking the countdown to the 22nd National Sports Festival, the country’s premier multi-sport event.

At the ceremony at the presidential villa in Abuja, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to sports as a tool for national unity and youth empowerment. He urged public and private stakeholders to continue investing in sports development.

A symbolic tradition of the festival, the Torch of Unity will now travel across all 36 states capital and the FCF before arriving in Ogun for the opening ceremony. Governor Dapo Abiodun says the state is fully prepared to host over 10,000 athletes and officials, with a dedicated athletes’ village, the first in the festival’s history.

Meanwhile, National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko says the festival aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy, aimed at turning sports into a major economic driver.

Established in 1973, the National Sports Festival remains Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event, fostering national cohesion and grassroots talent development.
