On Wednesday at least four people, including a nursing mother, were killed in violent protests that rocked several states across the country over the lingering fuel and naira scarcity.
The protests were witnessed in Edo, Oyo, Delta, Kwara, Ondo, Benue and Akwa Ibom state. In Benin city, the Edo state capital, protesters barricaded the gate of the Central Bank of Nigeria in an attack foiled by a combined team of officers from the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. In the meantime, the Edo State government is calling on security agencies to arrest and interrogate the former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole for allegedly inciting the public against the CBN cashless policy.
In other news, the all progressives congress held their rally in Rivers State on Wednesday where the party’s flag bearer Bola Ahmed Tinubu was welcomed by a Massive crowd at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, the states capital.
Tinubu at the rally urged his supporters, particularly the youth, to ensure that the forth coming election is hitch-free and devoid of violence. The rally ended with APC party members reciting the national anthem, when the anthem began, Tinubu was seen holding up his walking stick to the confusion of many. After the rally, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike hosted Tinubu, at the government house in Port Harcourt, along with other dignitaries.
During the meeting, Wike blamed the federal government for the naira scarcity which has resulted in violent protests across the country, further describing the naira redesign policy of the CBN as anti-people, stating that it is unacceptable for the federal government to disobey the ruling of the supreme court on the matter.
