President Bola Tinubu welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Wednesday as part of the German leader’s three-day state visit to Nigeria.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, accompanied by a delegation of CEOs and top executives from Germany’s leading companies, was received with full ceremonial honours, including the national anthems of both nations, a 21-gun salute, and an inspection of the Guard of Honour.
Olusegun Dada, the special assistant to President Tinubu on social media, shared the event’s details on X (formerly Twitter). The post read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu welcomes H.E Mr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
He further noted that the president hosted Steinmeier at the forecourt of the State Banquet Hall, where the formalities took place.
Following the ceremonial reception, the two leaders engaged in closed-door discussions. Steinmeier’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations, with a particular focus on trade and investment.
The German president is also scheduled to visit Lagos, where he will meet business representatives, explore a start-up hub, and engage with figures from Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including renowned artist Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka.
The German Embassy highlighted the significance of the high-ranking business delegation accompanying Steinmeier, representing key industries such as IT, high-tech, and energy. Their presence underscores Germany’s growing interest in Nigeria as a prime investment destination.
This visit is expected to deepen economic and cultural ties between both nations, fostering opportunities for collaboration in diverse sectors.
