The inspector general of police, service chiefs, and heads of security agencies now attended their first meeting with President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria at the State House in Aso Rock, Abuja.
The meeting was centred around his approach to addressing insecurity and discussed challenges of national security which he discussed with the heads of the security and intelligence agencies.
The President stressed the need for cooperation, prompt reporting, and coordinated efforts among the security services during the two-hour discussion, according to National Security Advisor Babagana Munguno.
The President also made a point of emphasising his dedication to the welfare of and support for the military and other combatants in the theatre of conflict.
During his inaugural speech on Monday, he stated that, “We shall defend the nation from terror and all forms of criminality that threaten the peace and stability of our country and our sub-region.
“To effectively tackle this menace, we shall reform both our security doctrine and its architecture.
“We shall invest more in our security personnel, and this means more than an increase in number. We shall provide, better training, equipment, pay and firepower.”
Service chiefs present at the meeting include Lucky Irabor,Head of the Defence Staff, Farouk Yahaya, Chief of the Army Staff, Awwal Gambo, Chief of the Air Force, and Isiaka Amao, Chief of the Navy.
Others include the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, and the Director-generals of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar and Usman Baba.
