President Bola Tinubu has eulogised the winner of June12, 1993 presidential poll, Chief MKO Abiola, describing him as the true
champion of Nigeria’s democracy.
The President was commemorating the 25th anniversary of the death of Bashorun Abiola in a message he tweeted Friday on his verified Twitter handle, @officialABAT.
According to President Tinubu, the legacy of Chief MKO, who ran into troubled relations with military regimes of both General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and late Gen Sani Abacha (rtd), which was the message of hope, endures.
The President, who was a Senator representing Lagos central senatorial district when the June 12, 1993 poll was annulled,
twitted: “Today, our nation honors the sacrifice and example of a true hero, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, 25 years after his sad demise.
“A true champion of democracy, his courage and integrity, complete dedication to public service, exemplified the highest ideals of our great nation.
“His legacy endures and his message of hope echoes still. May Allah SWT grant him mercy and increase his rewards”.
