President Bola Tinubu has appointed new leaders for four major national institutions including the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD), and the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI).
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasised that the appointees’ wealth of experience would bring fresh momentum to their respective organisations.
“The appointees’ experience and track record will bring a new sense of commitment, progress, and positive outcomes to fulfil Nigerians’ expectations,” the President said.
Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu has been named Executive Secretary of the NUC. Prof. Ribadu, a visiting professor at the commission, is an expert in veterinary reproduction and has served as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola, and Sule Lamido University in Jigawa State.
Professor Salisu Shehu will now lead the NERDC as Executive Secretary. A specialist in educational and human psychology, Prof. Shehu was instrumental in establishing the School of Continuing Education at Bayero University, Kano, and has served as Vice-Chancellor of Al-Istiqamah University, Kano.
Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri has been appointed National Coordinator of NEPAD. He holds a Master’s in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University. Tsauri is a seasoned administrator with extensive experience in legislative affairs, global diplomacy, and democratic governance.
Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani will assume the role of Executive Secretary of SMDF/PAGMI. With a Master’s in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK, Danfulani has a background in banking, computing, and business administration. He previously worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and served as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Zamfara State.
The appointments are expected to bring renewed energy to these institutions, driving development and meeting the aspirations of Nigerians.
