TikTok Parent Company ByteDance Faces Health Scare In Singapore Office As Employees Battle Food Poisoning

Dozens have been hospitalised in ByteDance Singapore office after a food poisoning outbreak; investigation underway.

Dozens of staff at ByteDance’s Singapore office, the parent company of TikTok, have been hospitalised due to a food poisoning outbreak. Health and food safety officials are investigating after 60 employees showed symptoms of gastroenteritis on Tuesday, with 57 requiring hospital treatment.

ByteDance, which uses third-party caterers for food, is also looking into the cause of the illness. According to local media, 17 ambulances were dispatched to the business district building to assist those affected. A ByteDance spokesperson emphasised the company’s commitment to employee health and safety and their cooperation with emergency services and authorities.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Ministry of Health stressed the importance of food safety practices and warned of enforcement actions against negligent food operators.

ByteDance, founded in 2012, gained initial success with Douyin in China before launching TikTok internationally. TikTok, now with over a billion active users, is managed by a limited liability company based in Singapore and Los Angeles but remains owned by ByteDance.
