A former National Chairman of Nigeria’s governing All Progressives Congress (APC) John Oyegun has said, individuals who stand against the restructuring of the country are making a “very tragic mistake”.
Oyegun, a former Governor of Edo state was a guest on ARISE News where he noted that the plan to implement the recommendations of the Restructuring Committee of the APC will ensure that attention of the nation will not be focused on one central government for all answers to all the problems plaguing the country.
“The recommendations of the Restructuring Committee is a presentation by the APC of ideas, of proposals that have been approved at every level of the party. It has been presented to the nation and it has been accepted and we are presenting it to the National Assembly and I hope that the National Assembly will give it the seriousness that it deserves,” Oyegun said.
“I know individuals have written against restructuring and those individuals involve those from the north, but I don’t have the impression that it is the north that doesn’t want restructuring.
“If anybody does not accept restructuring, it is because he hasn’t read the APC manifesto, secondly he probably hasn’t read the report on restructuring, thirdly he certainly hasn’t given a thought to the pros and cons of restructuring, it will create 37 development nodes in this country.
“They must be making a very tragic mistake. We want the attention not to be on just one centre in this nation for all answers to all problems, the federal government.
“We want the people of this country to now having given the states additional responsibilities and additional resources can now look onto their governors for delivering services, and development and it must not be that it is the federal government alone that will take the blame or the credit for everything that happens in this nation.
