‘This Is Not Democracy’: Tonye Cole Kicks Against Rivers Governorship Result

The All Progressives Congress candidate in the Rivers gubernatorial election, Tonye Cole, has condemned the electoral violence that occurred during elections held on Saturday.

He alleged that members of the People’s Democratic Party and their supporters grossly intimidated voters in the state, and threatened the lives of citizens who planned to vote for the APC.

The APC candidate called out the Rivers State PDP candidate, Siminialayi Fubara for keeping to his promise of “crushing opposition during election” which he claims caused an outbreak of brutality and voter apathy during the election as well as many other election misconducts.

“The sad tale of the brutal murder of our Ahoada-West LGA coordinator, Chisom Lennard and two others in his community will haunt me for life. To think that up to 11 people have lost their lives in this charade including a youth corper, serving on national duty as an INEC staff in Ahoada is extremely depressing and heart breaking.”

Cole also mentioned the alleged unjust arrest and detention of Hon. Charles Anyanwu and Hon. Emeka Edeh, both House of Assembly candidates, also on the day of election.

He called for the immediate cancellation of the gubernatorial election held in Rivers State as a form of justice for the people of the state.

The APC candidate was backed up by Sobomabo Jackrich and Tonte Ibraye, governorship candidates of the National Rescue Movement and African Democratic Congress who not only called for the cancellation of election results, but also for intervention from the international community.

They asked the international community to sanction incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike, his family and allies, and prevent them from fleeing the country.
