The Fight Against Tropical Diseases in Gombe State

More than 3 Million people across the eleven local government areas of Gombe State are benefiting from health services being provided by a non governmental organisation. As ARISE News Correspondent, Awwal Ibrahim reports, majority of the beneficiaries are suffering from some neglected tropical diseases.

Experts say there are a number of neglected tropical diseases across each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

But at this event, health officials in Gombe State are saying the most prevalent tropical diseases are Onchocerciasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Schistosomiasis and Trachoma TT.

The Northeast Coordinator of Neglected Tropical Diseases from the Federal Ministry of Health says efforts are in top gear to address the prevalence of the identified tropical diseases.

The treatment of these diseases is being spearheaded by a non governmental organisation, the Amen Health and Empowerment Foundation.
