The Atlantic has released further details from a Signal group chat involving senior Trump administration officials, intensifying scrutiny over the alleged security breach.
The messages, which the magazine’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg inadvertently received, reportedly included precise timings and updates on US airstrikes against Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis earlier this month.
The latest revelations come after the White House insisted that no classified information was shared in the chat. However, Goldberg, who initially withheld some details in his Monday report, has now disclosed the full exchange, arguing that the administration has attempted to downplay the significance of the leak.
According to the Atlantic, the messages appear to show Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth sharing real-time updates on drone and missile attacks, followed by assessments of the targets hit.
The White House has dismissed the latest article, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt calling it “another hoax written by a Trump-hater who is well known for his sensationalist spin.” Writing on X, Leavitt also noted that the article concedes the messages were not “war plans.”
Meanwhile, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard are facing questioning before a House committee over the incident.
Vice-President JD Vance has also weighed in, accusing Goldberg of having “oversold what he had” and disputing any claims that the messages compromised operational security.
President Donald Trump, speaking on the conservative Vince Show, continued to insist that the chat did not reveal sensitive details that could have impacted the Yemen operation.
“There weren’t details, and there was nothing in there that compromised and it had no impact on the attack, which was very successful,” Trump stated.
However, he acknowledged that a mistake may have occurred, adding, “Somebody in my group either screwed up, or it’s a bad signal.”
Despite the backlash, Trump has stood by his officials, insisting that the controversy has been blown out of proportion.
