Ten Separatist Protesters ‘Shot Dead’ in Angola, AI Says

Amnesty International says security forces in Angola have shot dead at least 10 separatist protesters in the north-east of the country.
The killings began on Saturday in the diamond mining town of Cafunfo – which is about 520km (323 miles) east of the capital Luanda, the rights group said.
There are unconfirmed reports that bodies were dumped in a nearby river and that many activists are still unaccounted for.
Human Rights Watch senior researcher Zenaida Machado has tweeted an unverified video showing soldiers and police officers standing over bodies
The police blamed the violence on a group seeking secession from Angola which had called for protests over the weekend.
The opposition Unita party has demanded the resignation of the head of the police and the interior minister, describing the killings as a massacre.
