Ten Killed in Mozambique Islamist Attack

No less than ten villagers in Mozambique have been killed by suspected Islamists in the northern region of the country, reports suggest.

Relatives of the dead said the jihadists abducted people, burned down houses and looted property.

People had been returning to Namande village, Cabo Delgado province, because the army told them it was safe to do so. They are now fleeing again.

The attack took place near the command headquarters of the military operation in northern Mozambique.

More than 2,500 people have been killed and 700,000 have fled their homes since the insurgency began in 2017.

Militants linked to the so-called Islamic State (IS) group are behind the conflict in Cabo Delgado.
