In a development eagerly anticipated by Nigerian football fans, the Super Eagles have safely returned from Libya. The team arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport today at approximately 5:48 PM Nigerian time, following a challenging couple of hours in North Africa.
The players, who were previously stranded at a Libyan airport due to an incident that drew the attention of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), touched down in a chartered flight.
Their saga began when the Super Eagles’ flight was unexpectedly diverted while en route to Benghazi. The team was forced to land in Al Abaq, a location two hours away from the match venue. Upon arrival, the players and officials were left stranded at the airport without water, food, or internet access, raising alarms about their well-being. The players were also required to remain in the arrival hall for hours, with no clear explanation from Libyan authorities.
The team is however expected to board a connecting flight to Abuja shortly, where they will regroup and plan their next steps following the withdrawal from their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match.
Despite the difficulties faced in Libya, the Super Eagles remain resilient as they look ahead to future engagements.
