Street Foodz Naija Season 5 Unveiled with N10m Grand Prize

Street Foodz Naija Season 5 plans to rebrand vendors, and offer a N10 million grand prize to the winner.

Food Bay TV, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, has announced the 5th edition of “Street Foodz Naija,” a Nigerian culinary reality show.

The press parley, held at the T Block Conference Hall in Ikeja, Lagos, revealed a grand prize of 10 million naira and other attractive incentives for the winner.

The event received strong support from several notable dignitaries, including: Honorable Commissioner of Lagos State, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, Minister of Youth and Social Development, Permanent Secretary, Pharm. (Mrs.) Zeinab Oluwatoyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Managing Director and Chief, Executive Officer of Food Bay TV, Femi Ogundoro, who also served as co-host and Other esteemed guests and honorees

The Managing director and Co-host Femi of Food Bay TV, said ,”Street Foodz Naija is a platform dear to my heart because we have a lot of Nigerians relying on it.

 “In the last 10 years, we have begun to reposition the way things are done. We want to change the narrative and make street food a viable business option.Street Foodz Naija is a platform dear to my heart,” said Ogundoro.

He added that “according to report, we have over 132 million Nigerians living below the poverty line, relying on street food vendors for their meals.

“This show is aimed to rebrand street food vendors, provide mentorship, and empower them to grow their businesses.”

“Street food vendors over the last couple of decades haven’t been people you’d want to eat from, but we love the food – it’s tasty. However, we know that the brands, in terms of production, are not appealing enough.

“Some of us, 10 to 15 years ago, used to buy rice from women who are still in the same spot. That’s why Street Food Naija is here to rebrand the way it used to be.”

He said ,”In the last 10 years, we have begun to reposition the way things are done. We want to change the narrative and make street food a viable business option.”

The event is backed by the Lagos State Commission, Minister of Youth and Social Development, Golden Penny, Maltina, Calypso, PRISMS Healthcare Ltd, Tiger, and FCMB.

The show features new judges, including Chef Tolani, Dr. Chinonso Ejembw (Aproko Doctor), and Opeyemi Famakin (Food Critic). Enioluwa Adeoluwa, a Nigerian Influencer, will host the show.

Ogundoro noted that “Street Foodz Naija has groomed some of them, like ‘Korede Spaghetti’ and ‘Lakrim’.

“Street Food Naija has groomed some of them, such as ‘Korede Spaghetti’ and ‘Lakrim’, and others. It’s not just about the money; the program taught them about mentorship and empowerment.

“Before the event, Korede Spag sold 500 packs for N800 each, but after the program, he became more enlightened and now produces at least 3000 packs for N2500 each, with over 50 full-time staff across 4 different food stations.

“Similarly, Lakrim, who was crowned the King of Street Food last year, has expanded his business and experienced significant growth compared to where he started.”

“Nigeria is one of the best when it comes to food, which is why we need to communicate this more often,”he said.

He emphasised that “They have expanded their businesses and increased their staff since participated in the show.

“This is what we want to achieve with this platform – empowerment and growth. We want to make street food vendors proud of what they do and make them see the potential in their business.”

“The business of youth development cannot be left in the hands of the government alone,

“That’s why we have partnered with the Lagos State government to develop entrepreneurship with young people who are into street food business in Lagos state.

“We want to create opportunities that train, inspire, and empower youth. This is the principal reason for the food contest – to nature the positive part through our leadership and economic empowerment program,”he said.

The Honorable Commissioner of Lagos State, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, also welcomed everyone to Street Foodz Naija Season 5.
