‘Stop Importing, Come Collect Our Fuel,’ Says Dangote to NNPC, Oil Marketers

Nigerian businessman and Chairman of the Dangote Group Aliko Dangote, has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and oil marketers to take advantage of his company’s extensive petroleum products, asserting that he currently holds one billion litres in storage that is costing him money to maintain.

In a statement, Dangote expressed frustration over the ongoing imports of petroleum products, urging the NNPC and marketers to cease importing and instead collect the products available at his refinery.

He said “I am expecting either NNPC or the marketers to stop importing. They should come and collect. We have what they need, and as they remove, I’ll be pumping”

“We are producers. I have a refinery. I am not in the business of retail. If I were in the business of retail, then you hold me responsible, but what I am saying is that the retailers should please come forward and pick.”

The businessman further highlighted the financial burden of holding such a significant stock of fuel, stating, “I don’t know whether you understand what it means to have a billion litres inside our tank. It’s costing me money.”

He assured that if oil marketers would come and collect the products, the long queues at filling stations could be alleviated.

He said, “We have what it takes for them to come and collect. The issue is that if they come and collect, then you won’t see any queues in the filling stations. We have what it takes for them to come and collect.”
