South Korean “Squid Game” actor O Yeong-su has been found guilty of sexual misconduct.
The 79-year-old actor was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of classes on sexual violence.
Judge Jeong Yeon-ju said the victim’s records of the assault and her claims are “consistent and appear to be statements that cannot be made without actually experiencing them.”
A women’s right group in South Korea, Womenlink, took to X to praise the ruling with a post and urged O to apologize to the victim.
O has repeatedly denied the allegations and plans to appeal the ruling. He has seven days to do so.
In 2021, O was accused by an unidentified actress of touching her inappropriately on multiple occasions. In 2022, he was charged with sexual assault.
O gained increased popularity after “Squid Game” was released in 2021. The series garnered 111 million viewers in less than four weeks of its release, becoming the most watched show on Netflix.
The actor also got a Golden Globe Award in 2022 for his role in the series.
However, O was not included in the announced cast for the second season of “Squid Game”, which is set to be released later this year.
